The Beinecke has acquired a small archive of letters, manuscripts, and manuscript notebooks by poet, editor, and novelist Charles Plymell.

The notebooks include drafts of poems and letters, miscellaneous notes, and drawings by the poet. All materials date from approximately 1968-1969.

Plymell, a Kansas native of part Wyandot/Cherokee descent, was closely associated with Beat Generation poets and writers, including Allen Ginsberg and Neal Cassady. Living in San Francisco in the 1960s, Plymell was also publisher of the first issue of Zap Comix.

His published works include: Neon Poems, Last of the Moccasins, Blue Orchid Numero Uno, and Forever Wider: Poems New and Selected, 1954-1984.
