A peek at the exhibit installation of the “Critics’ Gallery,” part of the forthcoming exhibition at the Beinecke, “Subscribed: The Manuscript in Britain.”
We’ve just installed an image from John Donne’s poem, “A Valediction of my Name, in the Window,” as the back of a vitrine curated by Lucy Mulroney, contributor to the Critics’ Gallery and my colleague at the Beinecke!
Donne lovers will notice that the poem is called “Diamond in Glass.” This is the variant title used in the copy on display: Osborn b114, an early seventeenth-century scribal copy of Donne’s poetry. The excerpt shown below is taken from f. 296.
The full volume has been scanned and can be read in the Beinecke’s digital library.
The “Critics’ Gallery” opens this Saturday, January 18, at the Beinecke Library! It will be on view through April 19.
