At this week’s Fellows’ Tea, Richard Deming (Department of English, Yale University) will give a gallery talk on the last paragraphs of Henry David Thoreau’s manuscript of Walden. These, along with Thoreau’s entomological notes and a stud-section purportedly from the cabin at Walden, are on view in the current exhibition, By Hand: A Celebration of the Manuscript Collections of Yale’s Beinecke Library.
Upcoming talks in the Fellows’ Tea series include:
April 8: Lawrence Manley (William R Kenan Jr Professor of English, Yale University) on a volume of Shakespeare forgeries by William Henry Ireland
April 15: Susan Howe (Poet, Recipient of 2011 Bollingen Prize in American Poetry) on Sarah Pierpont Edwards’ wedding dress (and Howe’s own notebook and manuscript drafts)
April 22: Nancy Kuhl (Curator of Poetry, Yale Collection of American Literature) on Ernest “Hem” Hemingway’s postcards to Gertrude Stein
Join us on Mondays at 4 pm at the Beinecke Library for a gallery talk on an exhibition object, followed by tea and scones with the Beinecke Library curators and staff, visiting research fellows, and researchers.
