Nathan Brown’s “Elevations”

February 25, 2019

By Nancy Kuhl

Nathan Brown Y’19 has explored Beinecke Library collection materials in his Creative Writing Concentration Senior Project. Nathan’s collection of poems, “Elevations,” explores photographs in the Yale Collection of Western Americana (on view in the recent exhibition “Eye on the West”) and letters in the papers of artists Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz.

About his project, Nathan writes: “What felt striking about this group of photographs was the interaction between the human figure and the physical landscape. I think of the West as someplace rugged and enormous, which endeared the subjects to me. They all seemed to share a vulnerability.”
