Jackson Brothers Fellow Emily Setina is an assistant professor of English at Baylor University. She completed her Ph.D. at Yale in 2010. With Susannah Hollister, she co-edited Gertrude Stein’s Stanzas in Meditation: The Corrected Edition (Yale, 2012), based on manuscripts and typescripts in the Beinecke collections. Her current book project, also the subject of her work at the library this spring, traces modernist writers’ experiences as photographic viewers, subjects, and artists and the legacy of these encounters for their theorization of photography, writing, and the private self.
