moore (Ph.D. in American Studies, Yale), is an artist-scholar, DJ, and assistant professor of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University with research and creative interests in black queer studies, performance studies, fashion, contemporary art and popular music. moore is the author of “Fabulous: The Rise of the Beautiful Eccentric” (Yale University Press, 2018 https://bit.ly/3mhUbgc), a cultural analysis of fabulousness as a radical aesthetic practice that marginalized people use to transform pain and struggle into opulence. As an artist-scholar who sees no gap between theory and practice, madison is also creative director and resident DJ at OPULENCE, an art-collective and queer techno party that centers marginalized bodies on the dance floor and in the DJ booth.
