John Garrison
John Garrison is assistant professor of English at Carroll University. His degrees are from the University of California at Berkeley (BA) and the University of California at Davis (PhD). He has held fellowships from the American Philosophical Society, California Humanities Institute, Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Medieval Academy of America. His essays appear in Literature Compass, Medievalia et Humanistica: Studies in Medieval and Renaissance Culture, Milton Quarterly, and Studies in Philology. At the Beinecke, he will be examining a variety of medieval and early modern texts, ranging from sermons and other Christian didactic texts to several early translations of treatises by Aristotle and Cicero. This research will support his ongoing inquiry into the social contexts that informed the work of Renaissance writers such as Shakespeare and Milton, as well as his current book project focused on the interplay between friendship, group relations, and economic endeavors.
