Milton Lamont Welch is finishing a book on how and why modernist poets represent lynching. Mont, as he’s known to friends, holds degrees from Vassar (A.B., May ‘99), St. John’s-Annapolis (M.A., May ‘01), and Virginia (Ph.D., Jan ‘07). His undergraduate essay “The Poet as Poet” was included in the recent Salt Companion to Harold Bloom, and he has an essay forthcoming in the collection from Hamilton and Colgate’s 2005 “Ezra Pound and Education” centenary conference. Outside ongoing research, he has edited a K-12 textbook with the Core Knowledge Foundation, and participated in roundtables on curricular and policy issues in higher education with the John William Pope Center on Higher Education Policy and the Liberty Fund.Mont also reviews poetry for the Believer Magazine while avidly pursuing interests in electronic music. He taught at Virginia, Hampton, and Hampshire before his current position at North Carolina State.
