Biography

Rai Peterson is an associate professor of English at Ball State University where she teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in poetics, Modernism, pedagogy, and queer theory. She is writing a critical biography about journalist, novelist, poet, and editor Solita Solano; Beinecke research will complete the archival study for that.  Her recent work concerns the community of English-speaking expatriate lesbians in Paris between the wars and the women who loved them.  An article on Janet Flanner’s defense of Kay Boyle during her 1952 American loyalty hearing is in the most recent issue of  Midwest Modern Language Association Journal, and Rai is revising a critical study of Flanner’s only novel, The Cubical City.
