Richard Dury
Richard Dury is an associate professor of English Language at the University of Bergamo in Italy. He’s editor of the Robert Louis Stevenson website, consultant editor of the Journal of Stevenson Studies and has helped found the biennial series of Stevenson conferences. At present is about to start on a major project: a new complete edition of the works of Stevenson (Edinburgh University Press), for which study at the Beinecke is essential, since this has the largest collection of Stevenson manuscripts in the world, thanks to the collection and generosity of Edwin Beinecke.Apart from Stevenson, but directed at the same publishing project, I’ll be interested in learning about the latest best practice for scanning, converting and proofing printed texts.Another interest is the relationship of maps, lists and details – to alternate occasionally with Stevenson and provide a little light relief.A more personal interest is the learning of poetry by heart, and the explaining of poetry by analysing its structure and deciding how it should be read. I won’t be studying that at the Beinecke, though – though I hope to learn some American poetry on walks.
