Biography

Vike Martina Plock is a Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Exeter. She is the author of Joyce, Medicine and Modernity (UPF, 2010) and the guest editor of a special issue of the journal James Joyce Quarterly on the topic “Joyce and Physiology.” Currently, she is working on a new research project that focuses on fashion as a central discursive force in early twentieth-century women’s writing. At the Beinecke Library she will work with the Edith Wharton collection to investigate Wharton’s ambiguous stance towards fashion and fashion’s relationship to contemporary evolutionary theories.
